Stump Grinding Service Area Around Hartsville, TN

Trousdale is a hundred and fourteen square miles, so the county takes a morning to cross end to end. The interesting part of this page is what happens past the county line.

Inside Trousdale County, every stump is a short drive

There is no address in Trousdale County that is a long way from the Square. Downtown is a minute or two. Lock Six Road and the school corridor are four or five. Thoroughbred Estates and Rolling Meadows sit around four. The Sam Beasley Road end and River Front Estates run eight. Willard is about seven, Beech Grove nine, the Antioch pocket on 231 South ten, and Halltown and Storytown at the far north end twelve, which is as far as the county goes.

Because of that, there is a single price for the county and no travel loading anywhere in it. What does vary is the road, not the mileage. The lanes off Middle Fork and Shoot Road appear in the county's hazard plan as regular flooders, and a wet week decides whether a trailer gets down them. If you are back off one of those, mention the state of the lane when you send photographs and we will plan the day around it rather than turning up and reversing out.

Across the county line, and how stump grinding is priced

Four counties touch this one and we work into all of them, but not on identical terms. Dixon Springs at twelve minutes and Castalian Springs at fifteen are close enough to book exactly like in-county jobs. Lafayette at a little over twenty minutes up Highway 10 is a weekly run and carries no loading either.

Carthage at roughly half an hour east and Gallatin at roughly half an hour west are the two where the drive starts to matter, and Westmoreland at close to forty minutes is the furthest we go. On all three the quote states the position openly: here is the number if you need a date of your own, and here is the number if you can wait for us to be over that way anyway. Paired trips are cheaper for you because they are cheaper for us, and there is no reason to keep that arrangement quiet.

Where we stop grinding stumps, west of Gallatin

West of Gallatin, south past Lebanon and east beyond Carthage we start telling people to find somebody closer. That is not modesty, it is arithmetic — past about forty minutes the drive becomes a bigger share of your invoice than the grinding does, and you are paying for diesel instead of work.

The exception is volume. A farm with eleven stumps, a church with a row of dead cedars, or three neighbours on one road together are worth going further for, because the fixed cost of the trip spreads across the whole group. If you are outside the towns listed on this site and you have a genuine group of stumps, ring and ask rather than assuming the answer is no. If you have one small stump an hour away, the honest answer is that somebody in your own county will do it better and cheaper, and we will say that too.

Your stump grinding Questions in Hartsville

Do you charge a call-out fee on top of the grinding?

No separate call-out line. There is a minimum charge for any visit, which exists because hooking up a trailer and driving out costs the same whether the stump is eight inches or eighteen. For anything past Carthage or Westmoreland the quote will state what portion is the drive, so you can see it rather than guess at it.

Can several neighbours book together and split the trip?

That is the best value available on this site, and it works particularly well on the rural roads where four houses share a mile of frontage. One setup, one drive, one day. Nominate one person to send the photographs with a note of which stump belongs to which address, and each household gets its own figure with the shared cost already taken out.

What is the furthest you have gone for a single stump?

Westmoreland, and it was priced accordingly with the customer's agreement. There is no rule against distance, only a rule against pretending distance is free. If somebody rings from an hour out with one stump, we quote the real number and usually recommend they find somebody nearer, because that is what we would want told to us.

Do you work outside Tennessee?

No. The Kentucky line is barely half an hour north of Westmoreland and people do ask, but licensing, insurance and utility locating all change at a state line and doing it properly is not worth it for occasional work. Everything on this site stops at the state boundary.
